Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
And dreamt a thousand dreams
Each dream was worth dying for
Or at least so, to him, it seemed
(Ghalib turns in his grave)

Plump and jolly, round like a football
They called him Teddy Bear
The King loved him, and all in the kingdom
He was everybody's dear

They laughed at him, he enjoyed the attention
They said, "Oh! He is such a clown"
Self indulgent, he walked on the streets
Nothing could put him down

Then came the momentous time
Something happened that no one had wondered
Descended an angel from the heavens
She came, he saw, she conquered
(Now it is Julius Caesar's turn to turn in his grave :P)

She had all the charms that myths are about
Infinite amount of grace
Humpty was in seventh heaven
His dreams had found a face

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
In love he fell so deep
Every little gesture, even a smile from her
Made him lose his sleep

He thought she loved him too
This, of course, was wishful thinking
For how could an angel love him
Just an ordinary earthly being

One fine day, without saying a word
The angel retreated to heaven
And all the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again

The story doesn't end there, there is a twist in the story
Humpty did rise and faced the test of time
He still sits on the wall and dreams
The number now being nine ninety nine.

  1. You wrote this ? You confuse me with the line "BTW, I love this poem ..." Which poem do you refer too ? Whose idea was this ?

  4. anonymous 2

    Thanks :)

You should read a post on this blog "Ek aisa jahaan ... " ... then you will not drop in as anonymous ... I am curious as to who this is who saw this post immediately after it was posted on a blog which is visited by a number of people that is certainly a single digit number .. I think I have an idea though :)

  6. Itna naalaayak aapke alaava aur koi nahi ho sakta Ankurmec!

There is a sher by Ghalib ..
"Hazaaron Khwaahishen aisi ki har khwaahish pe dum nikle
Bahut nikle mere armaan lekin phir bhi kam nikle"

And 999 .. well, it is 1000-1 ... ishq keejiyega tab samjhiyega :P

  10. humpty dumpty sat on wall
gir gaya anda phoot gaya sar :D

in my opinion it would be better if you have written this in form of an essay with refs from the lines of rhyme "Humpty-Dumpty". well my knowledge of englisg poems is not good so i cannot critically comment.

waise isme Humpty-Dumpty kahin tum to nahi. switzerland jake kya raas leela machyai hain, vo to hame nahi pata. laken raas leela ke alawa bakki jo bhi likha hain vo tumse match khata hain. :)

  11. wah wah kya likha hai

as for the latter part .. Switzerland mein kya hi raas leela machegi ... itna veeraana desh hai ... apni zubaan mein baat karne waale logon ko taras jaate hain

baaki mujhse match karne ki baat jahaan tak hai .. well, badnaam hue to kya hua, naam to hua :D

  14. Nice one, and I thought the idea was to "explain' the good old rhyme by giving the complete picture for once :P

Dreams badne chahiye waise, now he has the dream of seeing her again, of her loving him etc etc. Love, u know.

  15. You seem to know a lot about him, it seems :D .. dreams kam hone ke 2 interpretations the according to me:

    1) The first one: Love(of course this is that passionate-romantic-Romeo-Juliet-kinda-love) as a disease jo ek baar ho jaaye to phir dobara nahi hota hai .. so that dream ain't there any more

    2) The second one: Since he has achieved a divine connection, 'seeinng' wagerah jaisi chhoti chhoti cheezein matter nahi karti, so that dream has been fulfilled and hence he now concentrates on the remaining 999 :)

baaki actually kya hai wo to usi se poochhna padega :D

  16. Interesting, humorous, poem. Liked it.

    999 was the perfect ending!

But man, you actually made Julius Caesar turn into his grave![Though, later, Shakespeare may have used that sentence. I don't know.]

Part 1 of your comment above reminded me of a one-liner I once wrote: Love is like small-pox; if it has happened to you once, it is very unlikely to happen again. :D

  17. Thank you:)

Sorry for hurting your feelings :P... Julius Caesar, it is, indeed. But "turns into his grave"??

"Small-pox" is exactly what I had in mind when I wrote that comment ... But there ain't no vaccination for love, is there?

  18. Oh, now that was a mistake on my part. Lekin ab to yadi uska bhoot bhi duniya mein ghoom raha hoga to suicide kar lega. [Just to justify my phrase you know, after all I've got him his due recognition! :D ]
