Of internet/email and their absense..

"I have been a happy man ever since January 1, 1990, when I no longer had an email address. I'd used email since about 1975, and it seems to me that 15 years of email is plenty for one lifetime.
Email is a wonderful thing for people whose role in life is to be on top of things. But not for me; my role is to be on the bottom of things. What I do takes long hours of studying and uninterruptible concentration." - says Donald Knuth.

I admire you, Sir for that along with all the work you have done. It will take an effort but I think I do want to give such a life (sans internet/phone) a try, at least for a year or so. I so have a feeling it will be worth it... lets see when/if I manage to give myself an opportunity...

  1. :( is this the message you got from Don's quote!

    To shrug phone and email would be to merely copy his actions but to "be at the bottom of things" would be truly following him.

    Quitting phone/email was Don's way in assisting in this quest, you should find your own way based on your life and requirements of your work. Just saying

  3. you can certainly give a try...but we are so much 'addicted' to phones n net that it really seems impossible...1 year is quite a long time...:)

    indeed..

    @thequark

    of course the message is to "be at the bottom of things" but I like his reasoning too.. I somehow think that it will suit me too.. just that i am too addicted to the internet..

    @Saumya

    Addicted to the internet, yes.. phone, no.

    It is not impossible I think.. but difficult, maybe.. just to give up that urge to google everytime you have to look for the smallest of information..
