...

The qualities that you like to advertise as your biggest strengths are more often than not your biggest weaknesses.
-Tolerance is a weakness
-Honesty is a weakness
-Patience, too, is a weakness.

  1. You are right and maybe not :-)
All these are weaknesses to the external eye and many a times you may feel disadvantaged in the practical world. But for one's inner and spiritual development, these are strengths.
Isn't it easier to be dishonest, intolerant and impatient?? So if you are displaying characters to the contrary you have far more reserves of strength my friend :-)

  3. I don't think it is easier for me.. and I still think the contrary character is a weakness.. could write a long post on that but it will get boring if I do so

as for the spontaneity with blogging.. that is a necessity and not really a choice :)..

  4. All your strengths are your weaknesses and vice versa. They all have a hold on us.It's a matter of whether we get empowered by them or let them empower over us.

  5. "get empowered by them" or "let them empower us"

You said the same thing twice :D :D

If I interpret what you wanted to say correctly, it is kind of surprising.. so, you think we can make our weaknesses our strengths if we empower them. Interesting, and will want to do that.. lets see

  6. Anything that reaches the stage of advertising (read excess) is better changed.

  8. :).. perhaps I got the use of the word "advertise" misunderstood there..

what I meant is we like to pat our backs thinking these are our strengths and like others to believe so too, which in a way is self-advertisement.

  9. Are they? Or is it dependent on the situation? And what is easier to you depends on what kind of environment you grew up in more than anything else? But then thats me!!

  11. Your clarification on usage of the word 'advertisement' changes the connotations all together. In fact if you reflect on it a moment, your statement is true for things beyond just tolerance, honesty and patience. Boasting about anything shows a weakness.

Your post was a little confusing to me because what you wanted to emphasize (as I interpreted) was on the act of boasting and the chosen words lay emphasis on few enumerated qualities.

  12. @thequark

I am not sure anymore of what I meant by what I said.. i guess I should do some editing before I post just to make myself clearer.. for now, I let it pass :)

  13. "i guess I should do some editing before I post just to make myself clearer"

Clarity is overrated. Have a look at how good a conversation we had by a supposedly "confusing" post. Something should be left for interpretation, discussion.

BTW is it possible if I post a comment, I have option to choose to receive emails on further comments on the post. (I post comments on your blog using wordpress OpenID).

This way I can follow the conversation easily on certain posts.
