Why is the reference made to "genda phool" in the 'Delhi 6' song? Is there some special property of "genda phool" because of which it has been referred? Mostly it is rose/lotus that is referred to in songs/poetry. Genda phool seems to be quite a unique choice.
Genda ka phool, phool hokar bhi phool kyon nahi hai ?
ReplyDeleteshit shit shit .. my knowledge of biology is an age old legend.. but I should have remembered this dialogue.. now the song makes perfect sense

ReplyDelete(I had googled this when I heard the song the first time :D)
@Taps
ReplyDeleteYou've dug out some pretty interesting information! :)
@post
I however think that the use may've been made simply because the 'flower' has both pleasant and unpleasant qualities. While it IS beautiful and all, it can cause headache and can make people (like your truly) feel slightly asthmatic. So the msg is.. 'savour cautiously'.
@Tapasya
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed pretty interesting information... my retention for anything related to biology is quite limited but I still might remember this :)
@Vik
Hmm... phoolon se asthmatic feeling... interesting.. probably there is nothing that is appreciated by everyone.. maybe, just maybe, the world is fair :D
To Vik:
ReplyDeletePollen is a known asthma trigger and is not specific to Genda.
