Yesterday, when I was playing tennis, I noticed something really interesting. I saw a woman had tied something on her waist using some kind of a rope ... with both hands free for carrying stuff that was maybe more important. I stopped to look at her closely, and then I realized that this "something" was in fact a kid. Probably her own child. Found this quite amusing, so thought I should post here.
Anyone ever noticed something like this in India? I haven't! Now don't you start talking about Rani Laxmibai!
Yes I have. Right here in Bangalore. But there wasn't any rope. It looked like a harness to me. You can imagine it as a backpack worn the opposite way, i.e. the bag(baby-pack in this case) being in front of you. The baby fit snugly in there, with her head close to the mothers chin and her legs jutting out near the woman's waist. I doubt if you could get that thing in India. But undoubtedly a nice tool to keep the baby comfy, and your hands free!
ReplyDeletewell. ..the baby I saw didn't look too "comfy" .. but then I was looking from a distance ..so maybe!!
ReplyDeleteIt's not an uncommon sight in the US. I've thought about it and I have not been able to make up my mind whether I am for it or against it.
ReplyDeletePlug for a movie -- the last scene from "O Brother where art thou" features the kids tied with a rope...
Hi, I'm thinking of going to ETH to study. I did a google search on "Turnerstrasse 21" and your blog came up. I assume you live there.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you could tell me a little about "Turnerstrasse 21". What are your housemates like? Are they friendly? Is the surrounding area good? Thanks.
